Country music singer and performer Red Foley was born in Blue Lick Springs, Kentucky on June 17, 1910. He began singing and playing the guitar professionally while still a teenager and continued his lifelong successful career as a performer on stage, screen, radio, television, and as a recording star for Decca records.

He was first heard on radio in 1932 with The Cumberland Ridge Runners, a vocal group that appeared on The National Barn Dance. In succeeding years he served as emcee of Avalon Time and Ozark Jubilee. He was also heard on Plantation Party, The Renfro Valley Barn Dance, The Renfro Valley Folks, and on numerous regional radio shows originating from the country music belt.

On television he played Cooter Smith on Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. He also hosted Jubilee, USA (aka Country Jubilee and Ozark Jubilee), and was occasionally seen with his son-in-law Pat Boone on Chevy Showroom.

Red Foley died from a pulmonary edema on September 19, 1968 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana while on tour with The Grand Ole Opry. He was fifty-eight years old.
